Analysis of Bandwidth Allocation Algorithms for Bluetooth Wireless Personal Area Networks

چکیده
A major issue in the design and operation of ad hoc networks is sharing the common spectrum among links in the same geographic area. Bandwidth allocation, to optimize the performance of networks in which each station can converse with at most a single neighbor at a time, has been recently studied in the context of Bluetooth networks. There, centralized and distributed, capacity assignment heuristics were developed, with applicability to a variety of ad hoc networks. Yet, no guarantees on the performance of these heuristics have been provided. In this paper we present our analytic results regarding these heuristics. Specifically, we show that they are β-approximation (β < 2) algorithms. Moreover, we show that even though the distributed and centralized algorithms allocate capacity in a different manner, both algorithms converge to the same results. Finally, we present numerical results that demonstrate the performance of the algorithms.

متن کاملDifferentiated Bandwidth Allocation and Power Saving for Wireless Personal Area Networks
We consider differentiated bandwidth allocation for short-range wireless personal communication systems: Bluetooth. Since bandwidth requirements may vary among applications/services, and/or it may change over time, it is important to decide how to allocate limited resources to various service classes to meet their service requirements. We propose a simple and eff icient bandwidth allocation mec...

Bluetooth is an emerging standard for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs): short range, ad hoc wireless networks [1]. Originally, Bluetooth was envisaged as a wireless cable replacement technique, which is why the basic RF range of Bluetooth devices is only about 10 meters [2]. However, the number of possible uses of Bluetooth have increased to include different networking tasks between com...

In recent times, there has been a proliferation in the use of wireless communication all over the world. Several wireless networking technologies such as cellular networks, wireless local area networking (WLAN) and Bluetooth are commonly used in different environments. One problem spanning all types of wireless devices (e.g., cellular phones, PDAs, laptops, etc.) and networks, is the scarcity a...

This special issue of the Journal of High Speed Networks deals with an issue of significant current interest – Broadband Wireless. A very significant research effort is underway, both in the academia and industry, to increase the bandwidth available over wireless networks. Many of the application scenarios that will drive the ‘wireless Internet’ are predicated upon the availability of higher ba...
